5) You have almost completed this semester, so, how do you view Critical Literacy now? If you have any comments and suggestion, please do so as it helps for the betterment of the course as a whole.

Assalammualaikum wbt

Course statement

Critical reading, thinking and analysing; perspective and impact; context, purpose and function of texts; structure and organising of academic texts; opinion, fact, evidence, argument processing text such as summarising, synthesing, comparing, evaluating; developing cohesion and coherence; drafting, editing and redrafting.

I copied that from the module.

Realize it or not, we all Semester 4 DEC students are preparing for our finals like for another 3 weeks from now. Who knew, huh? It feels just like yesterday was our first day of class but this semester almost done.

First of all, I want to say thanks to Madam Yaya for being our lecturer for this subject. Thank you for all the teaching and makes me understanding about what is Critical Literacy all about.

Critical Literacy is actually a comprehension about an article. I admit it is kinda hard to understand first time learning this stuff. I couldn't really catch-up what is the topic, the positioning, the perspective and all other stuff in the rule of 10 but the key to actually understand it is to asked your lecturer and brainstorming it with your friend. It is easier that way. Critical Literacy is way different from other subject. In this subject, your opinion matter. Everything that write and you think is all related. From the topic to the visual literacy.

My tips for new students is don't see Critical Literacy as a hard subject and I know all your senior says that but it's not really hard. All you will learn is Rule of 10. It is that simple. It's like Mathematics. You just memorized the formula, sure do you can understand any articles. For assignment, make sure you make a draft first so you can get a better perspective on that article. Make sure you know how to divided your time. It's ok to do last minute work but still make sure you know what you doing.

For betterment, I going to make it short. I know the lecturers trying so hard to make the students understand how to analyse and all the stuff but still there's still some student that find it really hard to understand. If possible make it simple and easy to understand.  Just making sure the lecturers aware about that. Somehow, the student can't rely 100% on the lecturer. If it's ok I guess the mass lecture should not be change. Let it be an hour. I mean it can be 2 hours but then students might get bored easily.

Lastly, thank you again Madam Yaya and Madam Za for all your time spend on teaching us. See you again next time.

Lots of love,
Nor Athira Sujino

4) Proposition: Life is a Mere Illusion

Assalammualaikum wbt

I have to disagree with the statement therefore I have to state 2 counter arguments for the proposition. First, if you refer to Albert Einstein quote which is "reality is a merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one" it could make sense. This quote speaks to the illusion of free will, that we think we are agents and doers, where actually the universe is the doer. Einstein said "limited causation is no causation at all".  This is can also be stated as an expansion of cause and effect from a subjective subset to an objective whole.  All happenings depend on all other prior happenings in an unbroken chain of natural law. Einstein was able to look from the top down (god's eye view) not just the bottom up (human eye view).  "To make an apple pie, first you must invent a universe." However, Einstein might have more properly have said "Before the universe can create an apple pie, first it must invent you". (Ashly, 2014) which I believe that Einstein have his own theory about life but then he's a scientist. He done research for almost all of the stuff. Life is a gift. Of course everyone was born with talent but not all of us know how that talent work. Plus, what if that talent is a bad talent like a person really good in robbing or killing somebody? Is that what  we want to use as a steeping stone for a showcase? We want something good to show off to people because that what people want to see. The best version of ourselves.

According to enotes.com, the idea that "all the world's a stage" was already clichéd when Shakespeare wrote As You Like It. So Jaques is intended to sound at least a little pretentious in this quote. Jaques (pronounced "jay-keys" or "jay-kweez") is the resident sourpuss in the Forest of Arden, home to political exiles, banished lovers, and simple shepherds. Picking up on another character's stray suggestion that the world is a "wide and universal theater," Jaques deploys the theatrical metaphor for his famous speech on the Seven Ages of Man. The first of these ages, according to Jaques, is infancy (when the babe is found "Mewling [sobbing] and puking in his nurse's arms"), and the last is "second childishness and mere oblivion" (complete senility). His glum epigrams make up a "set speech"; Shakespeare meant them to sound practiced, like a bit of oratory polished off and hauled out on the appropriate (or inappropriate) occasion. Of course if you refers to William Shakespeare, he said the world is a stage because he was seeing life as his play. What do you expect a writer, poet and an author will say about life? All show on stage needs scripts but life didn't. That is why the world is not a stage. Life doesn't have scripts. It's all written by Him. Of course we choose the choice but still anything choice that chosen by us is all decided by Him. I guess all the religion believe that. Plus, all show need storyline and storyboard which I believe all of us have plan the future but did you know how it is end? We all know how a show gonna end but not life. We didn't know how it will end or when or where. It's all His secret. It's all about being believing in our own religion.

3) View on Prof Dr. Mohamad Tajudin Mohamad Rasdi's Statement

Assalammualaikum wbt

"The latest incident about BFM newsreader being threatened with death, rape and being burnt alive by those I assume to be Malay-Muslim netizens brings forth serious questions for this country. Is this country safe for our children to live in? If a simple point is raised against such issue as Hudud or even such issue as democracy and clean elections can produce outburst of murder, rape and burning people alive, what does it say about our country, its citizen and our leadership?"- Prof Dr. Mohamad Tajuddin Mohamad Rasdi (Speak up, theSun, March 26, 2015)

How do I view above statements?

It's all started with one video was posted on YouTube under BFM VDO account titled "Aisyah BFM Kupas Hudud di Kelantan".In that video she was talking about how Minister of Kelantan wants Hudud as a law implemented in Kelantan. She talks about how Kelantan actually not that good and implented Hudud in Kelantan just a waste. She talks about how the biggest drugs selling, biggest rape issue and biggest porn shared are in Kelantan. She was questioning about those issue and the people from Malaysia that reacts on that video mostly is bad. And yeah that was the issue.

It is a very brave move of Aisyah Tajuddin herself to talked about that such sensitive issue about our one of the states on the internet which was viewed by people all around the world. Here's what I think, I believe Dr Tajuddin was defending his daughter on this issue. I also believe that what her daughter was doing was a reflection of himself that is why he thought that to talked about those sensitive issue just a small of matter. I strongly disagree with his statements.

This is how I view the statements.

Doesn't mean he's a Professor, everything that he said is true. In his statements, he brought up about Malay-Muslim netizens which I believed that he is also a Malay-Muslim but how can't he see what his daughter was doing is wrong. His daughter was brought up a major issue that very sensitive first to us as Malaysian and second to us as Muslim.

Hudud is not some issue that anyone can make fun of. Of course, he is open-minded, liberalism some kind of person but it's not like he can make fun of his own religion like it was some kind of joke. He has to know there's a reason why people was threatening his daughter. I know sometimes Malaysian are to quick to judge but this is not something that people can shut it up, it's a religion issue that matter.

To me, the particular people should be mad as hell about this issue. There's no perfect states in our country but at least give a credit to Kelantan for trying to be the best they can. The Kelantanese should be challenged and mad about this. Maybe what she said was right but not all of them doing it. She makes Hudud is something impossible to be implemented to Kelantan. There's no such states that as brave as Kelantan is. It's all back to reflection of himself and religion. Is he practicing to be a good Muslim? 'Tepuk dada, tanya selera'.

Well, reacting to his statements, I think Malaysia still a safe country to live because the people that living in it still taking care and very sensible with people around and the issue that sensitive. We should be thankful of that and still I don't see people brought up gun everywhere. They will still go to jail according to democracy and clean election if they done it. It might not be the finest country but at least it's a good country to live.

As a person, we should be very sensitive about our surrounding. Of course we can be as open as we want but still we have to be have a barrier between logic of the mind and logic of the religion. Always put the religion as first thing in head before we done something. It's irrational how can a professor questioned about Hudud. it is one of the impact we can see that some of the people was brainwashed by West people way of thinking.

2) Stereotyping- Why Women Shouldn't be Behind the Wheel ?

Assalammualaikum  wbt

Stereotyping is exaggerated generalizations associated with a categorizing system, they go beyond the facts at hand and make claims that usually have no valid basis. However, it is also something that most people find difficult to avoid from doing. So, let's explore your sense of tendency to make generalizations by expanding the following statement:

Women shouldn't be behind the wheel...

Those statement were given to me for this post of another entry for this assignment. Well, when we look back to those words- driving and women- we already know what that's mean. Women the kind of drivers that most of the people didn't like it because how careless they can be on the road.
Well, let get me this straight, I'm a girl soon become a woman and I'm not being discriminating or anything but this is just another my point of view why women shouldn't be behind the wheel.

So, women shouldn't be behind the we wheel because we all know how women get so distracted on the road while driving. Of course, this is not something that are rare or unusual to us all of us. It's a perception of others toward women. According to Reader's Digest, perception is a powerful thing. Despite the research, psychologist claim that it's difficult to determine whether men are truly innately better drivers than women or if they're simply more confident in their driving because they're perceived to be better and thus show more proficiency. Similarly, the stereotype that women are weaker drivers may negatively affect their performance behind the wheel. Sometimes they just distracting by something else. This isn't new. This issue has become one of the main issue of when it comes to women driving. Not to mention, if they driving fast, it so fast even Michael Schumacher could lose. if they driving slow, it's too slow even tortoise is better than them.

Women can be so careless creature on the earth when it comes to driving. How careless can women be? According to Andri Antoniades's who shared the Subaru Emirates Facebook status, a Jordanian woman parked her car which was Subaru SZR in the middle of the road because of the tyre was punctured. The driver's didn't want to her car off road. 4 person died in the car including 9-months-old baby boy. That is one careless mistake that could kill, honestly.

Of course being a women is not easy. It's even get harder when career women have their own family. They have to deal with their husband and kids. Plus, working from Monday to Friday. From as early as 8 am to as late as 6 pm. They have to divide that time for family and work. They tend to get tired. One of the reason of car accidents is because of tired moms. A recent study from Surrey University found that a regular lack of sleep alters the function of 711 humans genes that affect "metabolism, inflammation, immunity and stress, leading to heart disease, strokes and obesity". So, it would seem that if loosing sleep is the cost is the cost of having both a career and a family, it's not really worth it. Meanwhile, catching more Zzz's is a luxury many of us can't afford. At this point, the definition of "hang it all" might be shifting to mean 'a full eight hours of sleep each nigh", but as a goal it seems just elusive as ever (Morrissey, 2013).

Still, there's a lot more reason to talk about when it comes to driving and women. I just highlighted the main and the usual reason of why women shouldn't be behind the wheel. Of course majority of women are clumsy and careless on the road but don't forget the women that can drive a taxis and buses. Some of them really prove somehow women can be as better as men when it comes to driving which I also believe that people shouldn't judge women when they try to learn to driving better. As matter of fact, we should encourage them to be a better driver.

1) You heard comments and maybe grievances from your seniors about Critical Literacy, but what is/are your expectation(s) or hope for this subject as you are just started.

Assalamualaikum wbt

First of all ,I wanted to say hi to my lecturer that reading this. Thank you for reading my blog, Madam Yaya. It's for the assignment anyway.

I have friends which are one semester older than me (even though they are the same age as me) last semester and I've been asking them what are semester 4 DECom's subjects looks like and most of them say it is freaking hard. They was handling 8 subjects last semester while we're handling 7 subjects this semester (minus the Mandarin subject). At the first glance I thought Critical Literacy is like another advanced version on Introduction to Literature. But I guess I was wrong. It's literally about using your mind up to your critical level to make a conclusion about something which is I don't know if I can do that, honestly.

I like literature. I like to give an opinion (even though sometimes it doesn't makes sense) and I guess CL is a fun subject if you really look deeply. We've been asked to watch The Others where I learnt there's a lot of hidden meaning in that movie. Very plot twist, interesting movie where the dead meet the living. Then we've been asked to watch Animal Farm which I took 3 days to watch the movie because most of the scene in the movie is close-up pig's faces. On the other hand, the movie is giving me an impact because who would've thought to replaced a human characters in animal's body? Such a delightful movie to watch.

So far, CL to me is an attractive subject even though it's quite hard to understand it but I will do my best for getting through this subject this semester, My hope is that CL can be more fun to other days to come and I hope I can actually do something with my job using CL (screw you, addmath). That's all, thank you.
